3 Coastal Trips in Korea

Korea has a lot of coastal cities to visit, and we seem to always flock towards the sea as we both love the water. Here, I’ll talk about 3 trips we took to 3 coastal cities in Korea. We highly recommend checking out these places.

1. Sokcho

Sokcho was actually our first trip together. I was on my second contract in Korea, and she was at a hagwon teaching. Our vacation dates matched up and we decided to check out Sokcho for a few days as her vacation was very short.

Located in Gangwon-do, Sokcho is a pretty popular destination to hit during the summer months and fall months. One big reason is Seoraksan which is not too far from the city center. We didn’t hike the mountain as one…we were lazy…and two, it was raining and dreary all day. We even tried to take the cable car to the top, but it was too foggy to see anything.

The city itself seemed pretty laidback and chill. We stayed at a hotel called “The Ship” which was perfect for the price, and gave a great view of the ocean and sunrise. The center center was nice with lots of shops, and of course seafood. On our last day, we went to the beach even though it seemed like it was going to rain again. It was a good close to the trip. Even though I was going through terrible insomnia at that time, it was still enjoyable.

2. Mokpo

Mokpo is underrated in my eyes. It’s way down south, and there are tons of little islands that you can go to from the city. There are lots of ferry services that will take you to these islands. Mokpo doesn’t have a lot of hotels, and if you don’t want to go the love motel route, then maybe check out the Shinhan Beach Hotel. Now the “beach” is very small, but the view of Mokpo bridge was awesome. At night, we went out to walk around and people were lighting fireworks, eating, etc. Very nice atmosphere.

On our last day, we took a ferry to one of the islands where there was a little water park. Riding under the Mokpo Bridge was pretty cool too.

Mokpo also has a nice little city center with lots of restaurants. To get to Mokpo, you can take a bus or the KTX direct from Yongsan Station. It took us about 3 hours to get there by KTX (fast train).

3. Busan

Yes…everyone knows about Busan, but it is one of my favorite cities in Korea. Real laidback and lots to do. I’m not gonna go into bg detail about what to do as there is already enough on the internet. I will say check out Taejeongdae as it has spectacular views of the sea.

I would recommend going a little later in the summer season as it isn’t as crowded. Sadly, I forgot my camera on that trip and had to settle for mobile phone pics:

This summer, I hope we can check out Geoje and/or Jeju.

Episode #14: Frozen Dom

Translation Credit goes to Hyo ^^
So yeah…as I wrote the other day, Hyo had surprised me after work. It was just an awful day for me. Kids weren’t really on their best behavior and i had to get on them about their behavior. The homeroom teacher ended up making each student come to my office one by one to apologize. A nice gesture, but a bit overkill to me lol.

Anyways, I came home from work after she had texted me what I was going to eat for dinner. I was kind of suspicious because it seemed like she was probing for info for some reason. Actually when I got to my apartment, I thought about how funny it would be if she were there. Turned out to be a good evening and we had 닭계장 and 설렁탕. Very delicious. Anyways, I’m happy Friday is almost here. This week has been long. I will also buy a new Macbook this weekend as this one is 6 years old and showing its age. Hopefully it will allow me to make comics easier as this one slows down sometimes. Until next time!

Back Online

So the site is back online. I had the blog hosted on Blogger, but I started hating it because I wasn’t able to customize things easily like I can on WordPress. Had to transfer the domain name and a few other things from Blogger to WordPress, so there were some technical issues earlier today. So frustrating!

I can kind of get addicted to this stuff and not quit until I finish so I stayed up until 4am toying with and fixing problems. Just fun for me but I paid for it today. I was so tired but had a nice surprise when I came home as Hyo was waiting for me. I love those kinds of surprises. The day was long and rough, but that surprise completely turned things around. Scared me when I saw her, but it was all good!

Anyways, I hope there are no more technical problems. Good night and look for a new episode a little later in the week as I’m a little busy the next few days. 잘 자요!!

Episode #13: Stealing Chocolate?

So yes…I was pretty embarrassed when this happened last night. But my friend had been there before and when he told me to take a sample, I assumed that they just gave out samples all the time. And…it was a lot of chocolate on that plate.

I was also chewing gum at the time and when I took the chocolate, I went to spit my gum out when he told me it wasn’t a sample. If I wasn’t chewing the gum, the chocolate would’ve been gone into my mouth very quickly.

Anyways, it was a fun moment, and we all laughed about it later. It was a good night. For dinner we had some Peking Duck, and it was our first time trying it. It was pretty delicious. Can’t believe the weekend is already over (like I say to myself every weekend). Hope you guys had a good one. Also, I added a different system to the comments on this site (Disqus) so feel free to leave some and try it out. Until next time!

Sick Dom

So I’m sick now. I had a full day of teaching which was then followed by a school dinner with Korean bar-b-que and of course beer and soju. The PE teachers and vice principal were understanding of my condition, but still gave me about 4 shots of soju. Currently laid out at home and going to watch some tv shows tonight until I fall asleep. So sorry if there is no new full episode until maybe Sunday or Monday. I just don’t have the strength to draw a full toon right now.

One of the things that is great about being sick though is that Hyo is a great nurse. It’s too bad we are not living together (usually doesn’t happen until marriage in Korean culture) because I always feel guilty that I can’t take care of her like she does to me due to her still living at home with her parents.

Whenever I’m sick though, I can count on her to come over and maybe cook something, give me some tea, or just be next to me for some comfort. I always end up feeling better and feeling like superman afterwards. However, me being sick doesn’t stop her from trying to tickle me. I don’t think she will ever give that up no matter my condition. Here’s to Nurse Hyo.
