Today, we are teaching you laughter in Korean! Laughter is universal, and learning how to express laughter through text in Korean is very beneficial in understanding and bonding with your Korean friends.
For starters, the most basic way you can express laughter is 하하. As you can see, this sounds exactly like haha in English so it’s easy to remember.
Now also like English, there are a few other ways to express a haha moment.
ㅋㅋㅋ – This is probably the most common way Korean express laughter through messaging. If you were to sound it out, it would sound like ‘kkk’. The more you use, the funnier something is.
ㅎㅎㅎ – This is the equivalent of 하하 but with just the letter ‘ㅎ’ used. Like the above, the more letters you use, the funnier something is.
Now there are a few more ways to express laughter so if you want to learn those as well, check out an earlier post of ours. See you next time!
Also remember that romanization is only a tool. Try not to depend on it too much. Learning the Hangul alphabet is the key to success!
