Learning how to say why in Korean will take you no more than a few minutes to learn especially since it sounds slightly similar to “why”. For starters, there are two ways to say why when you want to ask why someone is feeling a certain way or why they are doing something.

For example:

그 여자 정말 싫어 = I really dislike that girl.

왜/왜요? = Why?

The why has two versions. You would add the “요” when you want to use polite speech (for instance someone you don’t know that well or someone older than you). For close friends, you can simply just say “왜?”.

However, when using “왜” in sentences, you don’t need to worry about that.

For instance:

왜 그래? = What’s wrong? (a very common phrase so remember this one)

왜 안 먹어요? = Why aren’t you eating?

왜 숙제 안했어? = Why didn’t you do your homework?

It’s very easy to use in sentences although with some grammar points, you would use it in a slightly different manner.

We will be covering more conjunctions like this one soon!
